Design Process
To create this innovative chair, the process began with shaping a polystyrene foam model by hand, a meticulous task that laid the foundation for the design. This initial form was then carefully coated with plaster, providing a stable and smooth base for the subsequent steps. Following this, the structure was fortified using multiple layers of resin combined with glass fibers, a technique that added significant strength and durability while maintaining the model’s lightweight core.
The final touch involved covering the entire surface of the chair with a decorative yet functional stone carpet, also known as a resin stone floor. This layer not only enhanced the chair’s aesthetic appeal but also contributed to its tactile and durable finish, mimicking the look and feel of solid stone.
Despite its imposing, weighty appearance, this chair exemplifies an ingenious use of lightweight materials, achieving a balance between visual solidity and actual portability. This construction method not only reduces the use of raw materials but also demonstrates an elegant blend of artistry and practicality, ensuring the piece is both striking and durable.
